The vast expanse of flat surface that makes up the yusmarg, kashmirterritory of Yusmarg resembles in many ways the famous meadows of Gulmarg. Located some 47 kms from the capital Srinagar, Yusmarg present breathtaking views of the snow clad mountains and vast stretches of grasslands. The place lies at an altitude of 2713 m and enjoys a pleasant weather during most of the summers. Yusmarg, as the name suggests, means the meadow of Hazrat Eesa alahi-salam (Jesus). It is believed that the prophet visited the place during his time on earth. Yusmarg is also famous as the base for trekking in the western mountain ranges of Kashmir. One of the most captivating sights at Yusmarg is the frothing Dudh Ganga river that drops from a sheer height over the rocks. Mearby are located a couple of famous mountain peaks called Tatta Kuti and Sang Safed. The enchanting meadows sway with gentle breeze that brings the fragrance of the pine and conifer trees. The place further takes to the popular shrine located at Chrari-Sharief. Every year thousands of local of Kashmir (Muslims) sojourn at Chrari-Sharief while traveling through Yusmarg. Unlike Gulmarg and Pahalgam, Yusmarg does not have either the market place or plethora of accommodation facilities. Tourist huts are the best options while spending a night at Yusmarg.
