Anyone who wishes to spend some amazing moments in life or casual holidays filled with fun and entertainment in Kashmir must surely visit Srinagar. The summer capital is the main destination for travelers in Kashmir. The city located near the center of Kashmir offers pleasant climate, great environment, best accommodation and other travel related services.
Srinagar is located some 300 kms from Jammu and is connected by National Highway NHIA, railway services and airline services. One common observation, as one crosses the long 2.5 kms Jawahar Tunnel, is that almost every natural setting changes – the weather, vegetation, the geography and other physical attributes. It is a great respite to come off the scorching temperature of North India into cool and refreshing milieu of Kashmir.
So far as history goes, Srinagar which is situated on river Jhelum is one of the oldest cities in the country. Parts of the old city, popular in Kashmir as Downtown, still offers reminiscences of the past. Many old shops in and around the locality of Bohri Kadal are still providing their services.
The most appreciated feature in Srinagar city so far as a traveler is concerned is the presence of a multitude of tourist attractions, such as Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Cheshma Shahi, Botanical Garden, the Fort, Nigin Lake and more.
Srinagar is the most urban part in Kashmir and considered as the centre-stage. Some of the best hotels, shopping places, restaurants and other commercial institutions are located here. To reach any major tourist destination, travelers can make a head-start from Srinagar.
To amuse travelers, there are two major Golf courses located close to Boulevard Road and near Dalgate in Srinagar. The amazing accommodation in Houseboats in Dal Lake and Nigin Lake also add to the amusement of the visitors. The hill called Sulaiman Hill, on top of which lies the Shankaracharya Temple is visible from most parts of the city. The foothills and the adjoining Zabarwan Range offer beautiful scenes, especially in spring time when blossoms are bored by the trees. From the vantage the city with conspicuous Dal Lake and Jhelum River looks incredible. Deep down midst the green vegetation and water bodies are visible small rustic roofs of the houses.
One of the busiest places in Srinagar is the Lal Chowk (Red Square) area. Some development works have been recently carried to beautify this commercial centre of Srinagar city. Besides shops and stores, the place also houses many fine restaurants where the exotic ethnic food can be ordered.
