Kashmir Travel Plan

By: Kashmir Travelport

A good travel plan can save travelers’ energy and money. Usually people who visit Kashmir for the first time have little information on the kind of movement and geography of the place. Kashmir Valley is not completely all terrain. There are plain regions in the valley where there is easy and quick movement, whether by vehicles or on foot. At the same time there are hilly areas where movement is slow. Also, moving from one place to another becomes easy if you know what places lie en route and can be covered without having to travel on same routes again. Here are some ideas to make your travel plan in Kashmir suit your needs.

Where you have to stay: It is important to decide upon as where you will be staying in Kashmir. Travelers usually stay in Srinagar city which offers a range of hotels, houseboats and meets other requirements like food and dining, shopping, etc. If it is Srinagar you are staying at, then note down the places you can visit in a day’s time. You can visit the three important destinations Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam. The distances are near 50 kms, 80kms and 100kms. Time taken to reach them is 1 hr, 2-2-and-a-half hrs, 3 hrs. If you have an extended tour it is suggested to spend the night at these places as it gives you enough time to explore the places. Places like Kargil and Leh, Ladakh cannot be reached back and forth in a day. It takes about 8hrs to comfortable reach Kargil and the same time to reach Leh.

Know the Routes: There is one Highway, Srinagar-Jammu Highway, that runs all along the state. Srinagar lies more or less in centre. Traveling from Jammu, the southern areas of Kashmir are reached first. Similarly, travelling from Srinagar, the southern areas are the less beyond which the highways goes to Jammu. Places like Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag, Aharbal fall in the south Kashmir. Places like Sonamarg , Naranag, Kargil, Ladakh fall in the north East and East. Places like Gulmarg, Yusmarg and Dodhpather lie central west. You cannot travel to a souther destination like Pahalgam and expect to reach a northern destination say Sonamarg on the same day. So plan the trip according to the route plans.

Know the traffic: We have already written a blog on vehicle movement and congestion in parts of Kashmir. Read the blog to know which points can be avoided in order to save your travel time.

By carefully picking up the places to visit and routes, travelers can avert the usual hassles.
