Traffic in Kashmir is thin except for few places in Srinagar city and south Kashmir districts. A flyover is being constructed from Rambagh Bridge to Jehangir Chowk due to which severe congestion occurs in city’s central areas near Lal Chowk. The flyover lies in between Srinagar Airport and the main tourist residential areas like Dalgate and La Chowk. Those who come by air may face inconvenience as traffic is diverted on different routes. The region must be avoided in day time if possible.
Another congested area is the Pantha Chowk area on Srinagar-Jammu Highway few kilometres from Sonwar. Inconvenience on this road may be faced by travellers who reach Srinagar by road. An alternate road is the ByePass, which goes through Rambagh.
There is mild congestion on the road stretch from Dalgate to Nehru Park. The famous Boulevard Road near Dal Lake also gets to see a good rush of travelers and tourists. The choke point however is the roundabout at the Dalgate.
In the city two roads MA Road and Residency Road witness heavy traffic.
Outside the city, it is usually near Bijbehara and Ananatnag that traffic jams are witnessed. Travel on the routes must be planned in such a way that an early morning pass is possible.
